Driver killed by falling tree on Birmingham’s Crestwood Boulevard

A driver was killed when a falling tree struck the vehicle Tuesday morning in Birmingham.

The crash happened at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday in the 5900 block of Crestwood Boulevard, in front of the Alabama Waldorf School.

The small sedan was traveling eastbound when the massive tree toppled.

“I heard it,’’ said one nearby resident. “It didn’t sound like anything I’d ever heard before.”

The driver is dead on the scene.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Capt. Orlando Reynolds said no other injuries have been reported.

Traffic is being rerouted on Crestwood Boulevard.
